Missing Mom Rescued By Coast Guard After Vanishing During Florida Thunderstorm
The Coast Guard has rescued a lady who went paddleboarding in Florida and lost contact with her family.
The mother was with her family off of Cedar Key on July 9, 2024, when a rainstorm blew in, according to a US Coast Guard press release.
At 10:41 a.m., the woman’s husband called to report that he had lost sight of his wife because of the storm, and the Levy County Sheriff’s Office dispatch made contact with the Coast Guard Sector Petersburg.
He had gotten his daughter and himself to safety on a Dog Island beach.
Fortunately, the Coast Guard found the missing woman at approximately 11 a.m. After her family was reunited with her, they were all transported to Cedar Key Boat Ramp via boat.
“We were scanning the water with binoculars when we spotted the bright orange life jacket she was wearing,” Petty Officer 3rd Class Elizabeth Knight stated in the news release.
“She appeared to be exhausted from paddling against the weather, and once she saw us, she waved her paddle in the air and started calling for help.
“Regardless of their assigned task, Coast Guard crews are always ready to save mariners at sea,” Captain Michael P. Kahle, Commander of Sector St. Petersburg, stated,
“In this case, while conducting routine maintenance, our aids to navigation team was able to assist in the rescue of a paddleboarder who was believed to be in distress.” During the storm and the rescue, nobody was hurt.
