After learning of her passing, the entire country is in mourning.
After a protracted fight with osteosarcoma, Kate Kaufling, a cherished sophomore nursing student at the University of Kentucky, passed away on March 31, 2024. She was twenty years old.Kate, who was born in 2003, participated actively in both the Tri Delta sorority and the school dance team. Abbey, her twin sister, participated in the dance team as well. “My sweet Kate, you were my person,” Abbey said on Instagram to convey her loss.
On June 2, 2023, Kate received a bone cancer diagnosis. She continued to be committed to her academics in spite of her illness. “Kate was not only a great dancer but also a great student in the College of Nursing who took her work very seriously,” said Sandy Bell, executive associate athletics director at the institution.
“Everyone on the UKDT loved her, and her smile could light up a room,” said head dance coach Dawn Walters. We are all deeply saddened by Kate’s passing.Kate will be sorely missed by her sister Abbey and her parents, Holly and Steve. Because Kate touched so many lives, her memory endures.
